| Best upload | 800 × 800 px | Stays sharp on high-density screens |
Facebook can change these numbers. Upload a square and it will do the circle itself.
How to make a Facebook profile picture
- Drop a photo on the box or choose one. You can also paste an image.
- Drag the picture so the face or logo sits in the middle of the circle.
- Use the zoom slider or your mouse wheel to make it bigger or smaller.
- Check the previews at 170 and 128 pixels.
- Choose 800 pixels, pick JPG or PNG and click Download.
Square upload, round display
The corners of your square are cut away, so keep everything that matters inside the circle. The editor darkens the corners, so what you see is what stays. The profile picture also sits on top of your cover photo, in the bottom-left corner.
Tips for a good profile picture
- For a person, use a close crop of the face with the eyes a little above the middle.
- For a business, use a simple logo mark with space around it. Wide logos with small text become unreadable at this size.
- Use a plain, contrasting background.
- Use the same picture on all your networks so people recognize you.
- JPG suits photos, PNG suits logos with flat colors.
Round PNG option
Tick Round PNG if you need a circular picture with transparent corners somewhere else, such as a website or a document. For Facebook, upload the normal square.
How to change your picture on Facebook
Open your profile or Page and select the camera icon on the picture, then choose a new photo. The menus can change, so look for the edit profile picture option if you do not see it.
Privacy
Your photo stays in your browser. It is never uploaded.
