Make my picture 1:1

What is 1:1?

A 1:1 aspect ratio means that the width and the height are equal, so the picture is a square. 512 x 512 and 1080 x 1080 pixels are both 1:1. The decimal ratio is 1.00:1, and a square looks the same when you turn it on its side.

How to calculate a 1:1 size

height = width
width  = height

Type either side above and the other becomes the same number. With a square, there is nothing to round, so any whole number works.

Make your own picture square

Enter the size of your picture in Make my picture 1:1. You get two choices:

  • Crop. The largest square inside your picture, and how many pixels are removed from the longer side. A 4000 x 3000 picture gives a 3000 x 3000 square, and 1000 pixels are cut away.
  • Add bars. The smallest square that holds the whole picture. The same picture sits in a 4000 x 4000 square, with bars of 500 pixels at the top and bottom.

Crop with the 1:1 image cropper, or use crop to square, which can also add a background colour.
