What a 270 degree rotation is
Turning a picture 270 degrees clockwise is the same as turning it 90 degrees counterclockwise. The top of the picture moves to the left. Some programs and settings ask for 270 because they only count clockwise turns.
Equivalent turns
| Clockwise | Counterclockwise |
|---|---|
| 90 degrees | 270 degrees |
| 180 degrees | 180 degrees |
| 270 degrees | 90 degrees |
Size after the turn
The width and the height swap. A 1920 x 1080 picture becomes 1080 x 1920 pixels. Only the pixels move, so there is no blur and nothing is cut off.
When to use it
- A photo that is lying on its right side and needs a quarter turn to the left.
- A scan or a screenshot that needs the opposite of a 90 degree clockwise turn.
- A picture for a system that stores turns as 0, 90, 180 or 270 degrees clockwise.
