Pinterest pin size at a glance
| Pin type | Size (px) | Aspect ratio | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard image pin | 1000 × 1500 | 2:3 | Pinterest's recommended size. Use it by default. |
| Square pin | 1000 × 1000 | 1:1 | Works, but takes less room in the feed. |
| Long pin | 1000 × 2100 | about 1:2.1 | Taller pins can be cut off in the feed. |
| Infographic pin | 1000 × 3000 | 1:3 | Often shortened in the feed, so put the key message at the top. |
| Vertical or full-screen | 1080 × 1920 | 9:16 | For video covers and tall designs. See Idea Pin size. |
| Practical minimum | 600 × 900 | 2:3 | Smaller images look soft on big screens. |
These are Pinterest's recommendations and common limits as of 2026. Pinterest can change them, so check its help pages if a pin is rejected.
The best Pinterest pin size
Use 1000 × 1500 pixels, a 2:3 vertical shape. It fills the feed at a good height on a phone, and Pinterest says other ratios may hurt performance because tall pins can be shortened and wide ones look small. If you want a sharper pin, design at 2000 × 3000, which has the same ratio, and let the platform scale it down. Never change the ratio just to get more pixels.
How to resize an image to Pinterest pin size
- Drop your image on the box above, or paste it with Ctrl+V.
- Keep 1000 × 1500 as the size, or pick another from the list.
- Choose how the picture fits: Crop to fill for a full pin, Fit with bars to keep the whole picture, or Fit with blurred background for a wide photo on a tall pin.
- Pick JPG for photos or PNG for graphics with sharp text. Use a target size if you want a small file.
- Download the pin, or all pins as a ZIP, and upload them to Pinterest.
File type and size limits
JPG and PNG are accepted everywhere on Pinterest, and WebP is accepted in many places, so use JPG if an upload is refused. The usual limit is 20 MB on desktop, with a higher limit in the mobile app. You will rarely get near it: a 1000 × 1500 JPG at quality 85 is typically a few hundred KB. Small files load faster in the feed.
Design tips for pins
- Put the main message in the top two thirds, where it stays visible when the pin is shortened.
- Use large, high contrast text. Pins are often seen at thumbnail size on a phone.
- Keep important parts away from the edges.
- One idea per pin, with a small logo or site name near the bottom.
- Write a clear title, description and alt text. Pinterest uses them to understand the pin.
Common mistakes
- Uploading a landscape photo as it is. It becomes a small strip in a tall feed. Use the blurred background fit instead.
- Stretching an image to fit. This tool crops or adds bars and never distorts the picture.
- A very tall infographic with the title at the bottom. The feed may cut the end off.
- Enlarging a small picture. The result looks soft. The list tells you when an image was enlarged.
