How to make a Pinterest profile picture
- Drop a photo on the box or choose one. You can also paste an image.
- Drag the picture so the face or logo sits in the middle of the circle.
- Use the zoom slider or your mouse wheel to make it bigger or smaller.
- Check the two previews below the editor: the 165 px profile size and a tiny one like a comment avatar.
- Choose 400 or 600 pixels, pick JPG or PNG and click Download.
Square upload, round display
Upload a square picture and Pinterest applies the circle itself. The corners of your square are cut away, so keep everything that matters inside the circle. The editor shows the circle and darkens the corners, so what you see is what stays.
Tips for a good profile picture
- For a person, use a close crop of the face with the eyes slightly above the middle.
- For a brand, use a simple logo with padding around it. Fine text is unreadable at 165 pixels.
- Use a plain, contrasting background so the shape reads at small sizes.
- Use the same picture on Instagram, your site and Pinterest so people recognize you.
- Choose JPG for a photo and PNG for a logo with flat colors.
Round PNG option
Tick Round PNG if you need a circular picture with transparent corners for another place, such as a website or a document. For Pinterest itself, upload the normal square.
How to change your picture on Pinterest
Open your profile, choose Edit profile and use the Change button next to your picture. The menu names can change, so look for the edit profile option in your settings if you do not see them.

Your photo stays in your browser. It is never uploaded.
