How to use the translator
There are two boxes. Type in the Text box and the Morse code appears in the other. Type or paste dots and dashes in the Morse box and the text appears in the first. You do not have to choose a direction.
How to write Morse code
- A dot is a period or full stop (.) and a dash is a hyphen (-). The symbols · and − are accepted too.
- Put one space between letters.
- Put a slash (/) between words, with a space on each side. Three or more spaces also work.
HELLO WORLD
.... . .-.. .-.. --- / .-- --- .-. .-.. -..
Listen to it
Press Play to hear the message as beeps. Speed is set in words per minute, using the standard PARIS timing, and the tone can be set between 300 and 1000 Hz. Download WAV saves the sound as an audio file that you can use in a video, a game or a puzzle.
Timing rules
All Morse timing is based on one unit, the length of a dot. A dash lasts 3 units. The gap between the dots and dashes of one letter is 1 unit, the gap between letters is 3 units and the gap between words is 7 units.
What can be translated
Letters A to Z, numbers 0 to 9, and common punctuation such as . , ? ! / ( ) & : ; = + - _ " $ and @. Letters with accents such as é, ñ and ö are supported, and ß is written as SS. Characters that have no Morse code are skipped, and the tool lists them. When Morse code is decoded, a signal that does not match any character is shown as a question mark. The distress signal SOS is written as one unbroken group, ...---..., and shows as <SOS>.
Your text is not uploaded anywhere, because everything runs in your browser. For one direction only, use text to Morse or Morse to text. To learn the code, read the Morse code guide.
