Rotate Image 90 Degrees

Turn an image a quarter turn. Pictures open already rotated 90 degrees clockwise, and one click turns them the other way.

Drop images here, paste them, or click to chooseJPG, PNG, WebP and other image files, up to 50 at a time. Nothing is uploaded.

Rotate 90 degrees clockwise or counterclockwise

A quarter turn clockwise moves the top of the picture to the right, as if you turned a page to the right. A quarter turn counterclockwise moves the top to the left. Pictures open here already turned 90 degrees clockwise. Select Rotate left to turn them the other way instead.

What happens to the size

A 90 degree turn swaps the width and the height. A landscape picture of 4000 x 3000 pixels becomes a portrait picture of 3000 x 4000 pixels. The pixels are only moved, so the picture is not blurred and no part is cut off.

When to rotate 90 degrees

  • A phone photo that opens sideways.
  • A scanned page that was put on the scanner turned.
  • A screenshot or a picture of a document taken in the wrong orientation.
  • A picture that must be portrait for a form or a print.

Rotate many pictures

Drop all the pictures together. Each card has its own turn buttons, so a pile of mixed scans can be corrected in one go, and Download all gives you a ZIP file.

Other turns

For an upside-down picture, use rotate 180 degrees. To turn by another amount, such as 15 degrees, use the image rotator. A turn of 270 degrees clockwise is the same as 90 degrees counterclockwise, see rotate 270 degrees.

Frequently asked questions

How do I rotate an image 90 degrees?

Open the image. It is already turned 90 degrees clockwise. Use Rotate left for a counterclockwise turn, then download.

Which way is clockwise?

Clockwise is the direction of the hands of a clock, so the top of the picture moves to the right.

Does a 90 degree rotation reduce quality?

No. The pixels are only moved. A JPG is saved again, so use a quality of 90 or higher.

What happens to the width and height?

They swap. A 4000 x 3000 picture becomes 3000 x 4000.
