Resize Image for Instagram
Instagram displays images at a width of 1,080 pixels, and it shows larger uploads scaled down. Uploading at the right size and shape means that Instagram has less to recompress, which helps keep photos crisp. The default here is Fill and crop, which fills the shape with your photo and cuts the edges.
Sizes at a glance
| Size | Pixels | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Portrait post | 1,080 x 1,350 | 4:5. Takes the most space in the feed |
| Square post | 1,080 x 1,080 | 1:1 |
| Landscape post | 1,080 x 566 | 1.91:1 |
| Story and Reel | 1,080 x 1,920 | 9:16 |
| Profile photo | 320 x 320 | Shown as a circle |
How to use this page
- Add your photo.
- Choose a size in the Preset size list. The width, height and unit are filled in.
- Look at the result. If the crop cuts something you need, change Aspect ratio to Fit with padding.
- Download the file.
Tips
- Keep the important part of the picture in the middle. A crop cuts the edges, and the profile grid and the circular profile photo trim even more.
- For stories and Reels, keep text away from the top and bottom, where the app draws its own buttons.
- If you do not want anything cut, use Fit with padding, and pick a background colour.
- Sizes change from time to time. Compare with the current Instagram help pages if a layout looks off.
