Image Cropper

Crop any photo or image in your browser. Drag the box, choose an aspect ratio or type exact pixels, rotate if needed, and save as JPG, PNG or WebP. Your image is never uploaded.

Drop an image here, paste it, or click to chooseJPG, PNG, WebP and other image files. Nothing is uploaded.

What the image cropper does

The cropper cuts away the parts of a picture you do not want and keeps the rest at full quality. You can crop freely, lock an aspect ratio such as 1:1 or 16:9, or type the exact position and size in pixels. Rotate and flip tools fix pictures that were taken sideways, and the result can be saved as JPG, PNG or WebP.

How to crop an image

  1. Drop an image on the box, paste it from the clipboard, or choose a file.
  2. Drag the crop box to move it, and drag its corners and edges to resize it. You can also type X, Y, Width and Height in pixels, or nudge the box with the arrow keys.
  3. Pick an aspect ratio if you need one. Choose Free for any shape.
  4. Choose the format and quality, then select Crop image.
  5. Download the result, or copy it to the clipboard.

Aspect ratios

With a ratio selected, the box keeps its shape while you resize it. Use Swap orientation to switch between landscape and portrait. For the most common cases there are ready-made pages: crop to a square, 1:1, 4:3, 16:9, Instagram and passport photos.

Crop, resize and compress are different

  • Crop removes the outer parts of the picture and keeps the pixels of the rest.
  • Resize changes the number of pixels and keeps the whole picture. Use the image resizer.
  • Compress lowers the file size by changing how the picture is stored. Use the image compressor.

Cropping usually makes the file smaller because there are fewer pixels. Use the Resize output width box to scale the cropped picture down as well.

Formats and quality

Same as original keeps PNG as PNG and WebP as WebP, and saves other pictures as JPG. A JPG or WebP crop is saved again, so a small amount of quality is lost. A quality of 90 to 95 is almost impossible to tell from the original. PNG is lossless and keeps transparency. See also the pages for cropping JPG, PNG and WebP.

Photos from a phone

Phone photos carry a rotation tag. The cropper reads it, so the picture appears the right way up and the crop matches what you see.

Privacy

The picture is opened and cropped in your browser. Nothing is uploaded to a server.

Frequently asked questions

How do I crop an image online?

Open the image, drag the crop box over the part you want to keep, and select Crop image. Then download the result.

Does cropping reduce the quality?

The pixels you keep are not changed. A JPG or WebP is saved again after cropping, so use a quality of 90 or higher to keep it looking the same. PNG is lossless.

Is my image uploaded?

No. The cropping is done in your browser and the image never leaves your device.

Can I crop to an exact size?

Yes. Type the position and size in pixels, or use the pages for passport photos, Instagram, 1:1, 4:3 and 16:9 to get exact output sizes.
