What 1:1 means

An aspect ratio of 1:1 means the width and the height are the same, so the picture is a square. A 1:1 picture has the same ratio at any size: 512 x 512, 1080 x 1080 and 2048 x 2048 pixels are all 1:1.

How to crop to 1:1

  1. Open the image. The box is already square.
  2. Move and resize the box over the part you want to keep.
  3. Choose an output size, or keep the size of the box.
  4. Select Crop image and download.

If the picture is smaller than the size you choose

Choosing 2048 x 2048 for a 600 pixel box enlarges the picture, and enlarging cannot add detail. Pick an output size close to or below the size of the box for the sharpest result.

1:1 without cutting anything off

To keep the whole picture and add a coloured border instead, use crop to square with the background option.
