How to convert WebP to JPG

  1. Drop your WebP files on the box, choose them with Choose images, or paste an image with Ctrl+V.
  2. Pick a quality. 90 is a good default, 80 to 85 gives a smaller file.
  3. If the WebP has transparent areas, choose the background color that fills them. White is the default.
  4. Each image is converted as soon as it is added. The list shows the size before and after.
  5. Click Download next to a file, or Download all as ZIP.

Why you get WebP files

WebP is an image format made by Google to make web pages load faster. Websites serve it to browsers, and when you right-click and save an image, Chrome and Edge often save the .webp file. The format is good for the web, but many programs, forms, marketplaces and older editors still do not accept it. A JPG opens everywhere.

What changes when you convert WebP to JPG

  • The file usually gets bigger. WebP compresses better than JPG, so the same picture needs more bytes as JPG. A rise of 25 to 50 percent is common. Lower the quality a little if size matters.
  • Quality stays high. Both formats are lossy for photos. Converting adds one more round of compression, so use quality 90 or more to avoid visible loss.
  • Transparency is replaced by a color. JPG cannot be see-through, so transparent areas are filled with the background you choose. Without a fill they would turn black.
  • Animated WebP becomes one still. Only the first frame is saved.
  • Metadata is not copied. The result is a plain JPG without EXIF data such as location.

Is the WebP really not supported?

Modern browsers all show WebP, and recent versions of Windows, macOS, iOS and Android can open it. The trouble is elsewhere: older Photoshop and Office versions, print services, email forms, e-commerce systems and many apps still check for JPG or PNG. That is the moment to convert. For a website that you run yourself, keep the WebP, because it is smaller. The WebP vs JPG guide explains when each one wins.

Privacy

The images are converted in your browser. They are never uploaded, so the converter also works offline once the page has loaded.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a WebP to a JPG?

Drop the WebP on the converter. It is converted in your browser right away, and you can download the JPG, or several JPGs as one ZIP.

Why is my JPG bigger than the WebP?

WebP compresses photos 25 to 35 percent better than JPG at similar quality, so the same picture takes more space as JPG. Lower the quality to reduce the size.

Does converting WebP to JPG reduce quality?

A little, because it is another round of lossy compression. At quality 90 or higher a photo looks the same.

What happens to a transparent WebP?

JPG has no transparency, so the see-through areas are filled with the color you choose. White is the default.

Are my images uploaded?

No. The conversion happens in your browser and the files never leave your device.
