How to crop a passport photo
- Open a clear, front-facing photo with a plain background and even light.
- Choose the photo size for your country. The box is locked to the right shape.
- Switch on Show head guide, and move the box so that the head sits inside the oval, with the eyes level and the face straight.
- For an online upload, set Maximum file size (KB) to the limit on the form.
- Select Crop image and download the JPG.
Passport photo sizes
The pixel sizes below are the physical size at 300 dpi, which suits printing and most uploads.

| 2 x 2 in (US and others) | 51 x 51 | 600 x 600 |
| 35 x 45 mm (UK, EU and many others) | 35 x 45 | 413 x 531 |
| 50 x 70 mm (Canada) | 50 x 70 | 591 x 827 |
| 33 x 48 mm (China) | 33 x 48 | 390 x 567 |
| 43 x 55 mm (UAE) | 43 x 55 | 508 x 650 |
Any other size
Choose Custom size in mm, type the width and height from the instructions, and set the dpi. The tool works out the pixels and locks the box to that shape.
What this tool does not do
The cropper sets the size, position and file size. It does not change the background, retouch the picture or check that your photo meets the rules. Requirements change and differ between countries and between applications, so always read the current rules of the authority that will receive the photo, for example on head size, background colour, expression and file type. Online portals often set a maximum file size and a pixel range, so check those before you upload.
