What the post resizer does
Instagram needs a post in one of its shapes. A photo in another shape is cropped or placed with empty space in a way that you do not control. This tool makes the picture exactly 1080 pixels wide in the shape that you choose, shows how the profile grid will crop it, and lets you decide what is kept.
How to resize a photo for an Instagram post
- Choose your photo.
- Choose the post format: square, portrait, grid or landscape.
- Choose how the photo fills the frame, and drag it to the right place if you chose Fill.
- Download the picture as a JPG or PNG and upload it.
Which method for which photo
| You have | You want | Best method |
|---|---|---|
| A landscape photo | A portrait post | Fit with a blurred background, which keeps the whole photo |
| A phone photo in portrait | A 4:5 post | Fill, which cuts only a small part |
| A square picture | A portrait post | Fill crops the sides, or fit with a blurred background keeps it all |
| A wide photo | A square post | Fill and drag to the subject, or fit with bars |
| A screenshot | A post | Fit with solid bars or a blurred background |
Quality and privacy
The photo is processed in your browser and is not uploaded anywhere. When a photo is smaller than the post size, it has to be enlarged, and the tool tells you. Save photos as JPG and graphics with text as PNG.
Several photos at once
To resize a whole set of photos to the same size, or to split a wide photo across the slides of a carousel, use carousel size.
