What happened to Idea Pins
Idea Pins, first called Story Pins, were a separate full-screen format. In 2023 Pinterest merged them into the standard Pin format, so there is no separate Idea Pin to upload today. Many people still search for the Idea Pin size, and the size is useful: it is the vertical shape for video and tall designs.

For image pins the safe choice is still 2:3 (1000 × 1500), because it is the shape Pinterest recommends. Use 9:16 when you design for a full phone screen, such as a video cover.
Video limits
- Ratios: 1:1 square, or vertical 2:3, 4:5 and 9:16.
- Formats: MP4, MOV or M4V.
- File size: up to 2 GB.
- Length: from 4 seconds to 15 minutes. Short videos of a few seconds to about 15 seconds work well in ads.
- Cover image: a video pin has a cover image, so make one at the same ratio.
This page resizes images, such as covers and slides, not videos.
Keep text away from the edges
On a tall design the top and bottom of the screen can be covered by the app's title, buttons and caption. Keep text and logos in the middle band. The picture shows an approximate guide, not an official Pinterest measurement.
How to make a 9:16 image
- Drop your image above. The size is already 1080 × 1920.
- Choose Crop to fill for a full-screen look, or the blurred background to keep a wide picture whole.
- Download the PNG or JPG and use it as a cover or slide.
