Facebook post sizes at a glance
| Post | Size (px) | Ratio | Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shared link or landscape photo | 1200 × 630 | 1.91:1 | Link previews, blog images, announcements |
| Square post | 1080 × 1080 | 1:1 | Works in the feed everywhere |
| Portrait post | 1080 × 1350 | 4:5 | Takes the most room on a phone feed |
| Story or Reel | 1080 × 1920 | 9:16 | Full-screen vertical. Keep text away from the top and bottom edges |
| Event cover | 1920 × 1005 | about 1.91:1 | Event page header |
These are the common recommendations as of 2026. Pictures taller than 4:5 can be cropped in the feed.
Which size to choose
- Sharing a link: 1200 × 630 is the shape of the preview image Facebook shows for a link.
- A normal photo post: portrait 4:5 fills the most of a phone screen, square is the safe choice.
- A graphic with text: use PNG so letters stay sharp, and keep the text large.
- A vertical video cover or story: 1080 × 1920.
Set the image that Facebook shows for your website
When someone shares a link, Facebook uses the page's Open Graph image. Set it with an og:image tag and make the picture 1200 × 630 pixels, so it fills the preview without cropping. Use this page to make that image. If you change an image later, Facebook may keep the old one for a while. Its Sharing Debugger tool can refresh the cache.
How to resize an image for a Facebook post
- Drop your picture on the box above, or paste it with Ctrl+V.
- Pick the post size.
- Choose the fit: Crop to fill, Fit with bars, or Fit with blurred background to keep the whole picture.
- Choose JPG for photos or PNG for graphics, and optionally a target file size.
- Download the image or a ZIP of several.
Tips for post images
- Use large, high contrast text and keep it short.
- Keep faces and key objects away from the edges, where crops happen.
- Upload at the recommended size, because Facebook compresses everything and shrinks large files.
- Write a caption that stands on its own, since images are often seen small.
