WhatsApp does not publish one official size, so these are the common sizes as of 2026. Any square of at least 500 pixels works.
How to make a profile picture without cropping
- Drop your photo on the box or paste it.
- Leave Fit on Whole photo inside the circle with a blurred background, or switch to bars and pick a color.
- Check the circle preview. Everything you want to show should be inside it.
- Choose the size: 500 × 500 for a personal DP, 640 × 640 for Business or a channel.
- Download the picture and set it as your profile photo.

Why WhatsApp crops or blurs a profile picture
- Cropped: WhatsApp needs a square and shows a circle, so a tall or wide photo is cut. Make it square first so you decide what stays.
- Blurry: small pictures are stretched. Start from at least 500 × 500, and use the original, not a copy that was sent in a chat.
- Corners missing: the circle cuts them. Keep important details inside it.
Business profile tips
- Use your logo on a plain background with space around it, because the circle cuts the corners.
- Use the same picture as on your website and other networks, so customers recognize you.
- Avoid small text. At chat list size, only a simple shape or one big letter is readable.
- Use PNG for a flat logo and JPG for a photo.
