Which format should you convert to?
| Format | Choose it when | File size |
|---|---|---|
| JPG | You need a photo that opens everywhere: email, forms, social media, print. | Medium |
| PNG | You will edit the image again, or it holds text, a screenshot or graphics. | Very large for photos |
| WebP | The photo goes on a website and loading speed matters. | Smallest |
How to convert HEIC
- Choose the output format and, for JPG and WebP, the quality.
- Add the HEIC files. They are converted with the current settings.
- If you change a setting later, click Convert again to apply it to the whole list.
- Download each file or one ZIP.
Opening HEIC without converting
- Mac and iPhone: HEIC opens in Preview, Photos and Safari.
- Windows 10 and 11: install HEIF Image Extensions and HEVC Video Extensions from the Microsoft Store. The HEVC extension is sometimes paid, which is why many people convert instead.
- Android 9 and later: the gallery shows HEIC, but many apps and websites still refuse it.
- Google Photos and iCloud: both can download photos as JPG.
Does the converter work on a phone?
Yes. On an iPhone, Safari converts the photos with its own decoder, which is fast. On Android the page loads a decoder once, so the first photo takes a few seconds longer. Photos are never sent to a server.
