The short answer
Use 1584 × 396 pixels for your profile banner, 400 × 400 pixels for your profile picture, 1128 × 191 pixels for a company page cover and 1200 × 627 pixels for a landscape post. To resize an image right now, use the LinkedIn banner resizer.
Personal profile sizes
| Item | Size (px) | Ratio | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Banner (background photo) | 1584 × 396 | 4:1 | Up to 8 MB. Keep text away from the lower left. See banner size. |
| Profile picture | 400 × 400 | 1:1 | Shown as a circle. Up to 8 MB. See profile picture size. |
Company page sizes
| Item | Size (px) | Ratio | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cover image | 1128 × 191 | about 5.9:1 | Logo covers the lower left. See cover size. |
| Logo | 300 × 300 | 1:1 | Square. Leave a margin around it. |
| Showcase page cover | 1128 × 191 | about 5.9:1 | Same as a company cover. |
Company pages have their own file limits, often cited as about 3 MB for logos and 4 MB for covers. Keep the files small with the image compressor.
Post sizes
| Type | Size (px) | Ratio | Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Landscape image or link preview | 1200 × 627 | 1.91:1 | Shared links, blog posts, simple graphics |
| Square image | 1200 × 1200 | 1:1 | Quotes, product shots, simple charts |
| Portrait image | 1080 × 1350 | 4:5 | Takes the most room in the feed on a phone |
| Document carousel slide | 1080 × 1350 or 1080 × 1080 | 4:5 or 1:1 | PDF slides, all with the same size |
| Article cover | 1920 × 1080 | 16:9 | Some older guides cite 744 × 400 |
| Event banner | 1600 × 900 | 16:9 | LinkedIn events |
For a carousel, export your slides as one PDF. LinkedIn accepts a document of up to about 100 MB and 300 pages, but short carousels of 5 to 12 slides are easier to read.
Video sizes
- Ratios: 16:9 landscape, 1:1 square, 4:5 portrait and 9:16 vertical.
- Format MP4, from a few seconds to 15 minutes, up to about 5 GB.
- Add captions. Many people watch with the sound off.
Ad sizes
| Ad | Size and ratio | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Single image ad | 1200 × 627 (1.91:1) or 1200 × 1200 (1:1) | JPG, PNG or GIF, up to about 5 MB |
| Carousel ad | 1080 × 1080, 1:1 | 2 to 10 cards, all the same size |
Ad rules are stricter and change more often than the organic ones. Check LinkedIn's ad specifications before you build a campaign.
File types and limits
- Formats: JPG, PNG and GIF. Use JPG for photos and PNG for text and flat colors.
- Size: up to 8 MB for personal profile images. Keep every file small anyway so it loads fast.
- Text limits: a headline holds 220 characters, the About section 2,600 and a post 3,000. Only the first lines of a post show before See more.
Why the shapes matter
LinkedIn shows the same banner at different widths on a computer, a phone and a tablet, and it covers the lower left with your photo or logo. A banner with the right ratio keeps its edges predictable, and a short message in the middle and right stays visible everywhere. For posts, portrait images take the most space in the mobile feed, and landscape 1.91:1 is the safe choice for link previews.
How to export images that stay sharp
- Design the banner at 3168 × 792 and the company cover at 2256 × 382, the same ratio at double size.
- Export photos as JPG at quality 85 to 90, and use PNG for text and flat colors.
- Shrink files above about 1 MB with the image compressor.
- Name the file with a clear description and add alt text when you publish a post.
Image design checklist
- Right size and ratio for the place you use it.
- Text in the middle and right of a banner, away from the photo or logo.
- Large, high contrast text that reads on a phone.
- One idea per image, with your logo kept small.
- Alt text on every post image.
